REGINA test mask: research on EMC guidelines for integrated automotive circuits
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents the results obtained with a specific test mask designed at Motorola for the study of the electromagnetic parasitic emissions in integrated circuits (IC). First, origins of parasitic emissions are presented for CMOS circuits, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) measurements of IC emissions are detailed: a radiated measurement method with respect to the IEC61967-2 standard and a conducted one with respect to the IEC61967-4 standard. The REGINA test chip is then described, with a focus on particular structures allowing to test and verify some design guidelines for EMC, like delay cell, emissive structure or on-chip sensor. The printed circuit board that is use to implement the test chip and the experiment test bench are also described. A set of measurements is presented and some guidelines are deduced and recommended as design rules. q 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Characterization of the Evolution of Integrated Circuit Emissions after Accelerated Aging
—With the evolving technological development of integrated circuits, ensuring electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is becoming a serious challenge for electronic circuit and system manufacturers. Although electronic components must pass a set of EMC tests to ensure safe operations, the evolution over time of EMC is not characterized and cannot be accurately forecast. This paper presents an origi...

The continuous scaling of CMOS circuits has set the MOSFET transistor in the nanoelectronic era. In this context, the functionality and complexity of integrated circuits (ICs) are growing up. However, the operation voltage has been continuously reduced. The higher complexity of ICs has allowed including electronic systems in a lot of safety critical applications (i.e., automotive, aeronautics a...
متن کاملEmc Guidelines for Microcontroller-based Applications
The use of microcontroller-based systems is increasingly wide-spread, especially in such areas as consumer, industrial and automotive applications, where the drive for cost reduction is the common trend. This emphasis on cost reduction and the increasing complexity of such systems requires the manufacturers of semiconductor components to develop highly integrated, single chip, high operating fr...
متن کاملEmc Model-based Test-setup of an Electrical System
The increased number of electronic systems in today’s car designs requires that each system is EMC compliant prior to vehicle assembly. Each system or component auto supplier is mandated to perform system level EMC testing according to the car manufacturer standards. To ensure high functional integrity of these systems, EMC modeling and simulation are used as a tool. This paper provides an EMC ...
متن کاملImprovement of System Robustness through EMC Optimization
The electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) became a major concern for integrated circuits (ICs) during the last years. As the operating frequency has increased and the supply voltage has become lower, the electromagnetic emission as well as the susceptibility of integrated circuits increased tremendously. Generally speaking, EMC is defined as the ability of an electrical system to work properly in...
